Will it run on my PC?
Three questions, an honest answer, and nothing to sign up for. The same tiers our docs publish, so this page cannot tell you something the requirements do not.
What each tier can run
Local generation needs an NVIDIA card, RTX 20-series or newer. Cloud generation runs on our GPUs and works on any Windows PC.
| Your NVIDIA GPU | Images | Video |
|---|---|---|
| 4 to 6 GB VRAM | Most image presets work | Not realistic; use Cloud |
| 8 GB VRAM | Everything | Lightweight and low-VRAM video presets only, at lower resolutions |
| 12 GB VRAM | Everything | Most video presets at moderate settings |
| 16 GB+ VRAM | Everything | Everything, including the heavier video models |
- RAM: 16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended for video. Video models spill into system RAM, and long runs on 16 GB can crash near the end because Windows runs out of committed memory, which looks like a GPU fault and is not. Raising the page file fixes it.
- Disk: a single video model can be 10 to 30 GB. Keep models on an SSD; a slow drive turns a three minute render into a twenty minute wait on the first run of a session.
- Windows: 10 or 11, 64-bit. There is no macOS or Linux version.
One VRAM number per model name is meaningless. Model authors quote their full-precision reference build, listicles quote something in the middle, and most people run a quantized build that fits in far less. The tiers above describe the presets SimpliGen ships, tested at the settings they run at. The longer version, with sources.
Common questions
- How much VRAM do I need for AI image generation?
- Most image presets run on 4 to 6 GB of VRAM, and every image preset runs on 8 GB or more. Video is the demanding case, not images.
- How much VRAM do I need for AI video generation?
- 8 GB runs lightweight video presets at lower resolutions, 12 GB runs most video presets at moderate settings, and 16 GB or more runs everything including the heavier models. System RAM matters as much: 32 GB is recommended for video.
- Does local AI generation work on an AMD GPU?
- Not in SimpliGen: the local engine is CUDA based, so AMD and Intel cards are not supported. SimpliGen Cloud runs every cloud-enabled preset on our GPUs regardless of your card, and ComfyUI itself supports AMD and Intel Arc if you want to stay local.
- Does SimpliGen work on a Mac?
- No. The installer is a Windows executable and there is no macOS version. On Apple silicon the local route is ComfyUI, which supports it.
