# Pricing & licensing FAQ (/docs/getting-started/faq)

## Is SimpliGen a subscription? [#is-simpligen-a-subscription]

No. SimpliGen is a **one-time purchase**. Local generation on your own GPU is unlimited and free forever: no monthly fee, no per-image cost, no quota.

## Then what are cloud credits? [#then-what-are-cloud-credits]

**SimpliGen Cloud** is optional: it runs your generation on our datacenter GPUs and charges per generation, using credits.

* Credits are bought in packs, in the app or on the website.
* Credits **never expire** and there is no auto-renewal; it is not a subscription.
* Each preset shows its cloud price before you generate; the price depends on resolution, duration, and steps.
* If a cloud generation fails and produces nothing, the credits are refunded automatically.

You never *need* credits: everything cloud does, local does too (slower, on your hardware).

## Why do some presets ask for a Google or OpenAI API key? [#why-do-some-presets-ask-for-a-google-or-openai-api-key]

Presets built on **closed models** (Google Veo, GPT-Image, and similar) can't run locally or on our GPUs; they only exist on the provider's servers. For those presets you bring your own API key (for Google models: [Google AI Studio](https://aistudio.google.com/apikey)), and **the provider bills you directly** (pay-as-you-go on your Google/OpenAI account). That usage is not included in the SimpliGen purchase and the money doesn't go through SimpliGen.

So, three kinds of presets:

| Preset type | Runs on | Costs |
| ----------------------- | --------------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| Local | Your NVIDIA GPU | Free, unlimited |
| Cloud | SimpliGen's GPUs | Credits per generation |
| API (Veo, GPT-Image...) | Google's / OpenAI's servers | Billed by that provider to your key |

## How many computers can I install on? [#how-many-computers-can-i-install-on]

A license key allows **2 active machines**. To move to a new PC (or before reinstalling Windows, swapping major hardware, or factory-resetting), open **Settings -> License -> Deactivate** first, which frees the slot. If you forgot and hit the limit, contact support on Discord with your purchase email and we'll reset the key.

## Does it work offline? [#does-it-work-offline]

Yes. Local generation runs fully offline. The app verifies your license roughly every 30 days, so it needs an internet connection occasionally, and of course for downloads, Cloud, and API presets.

## Is there a trial? [#is-there-a-trial]

No trial. If it turns out your PC can't run SimpliGen locally, contact support; we refund purchases where the hardware can't do the job (see [System requirements](/docs/getting-started/requirements) first).

## Where do I re-download the app? [#where-do-i-re-download-the-app]

Your [Gumroad library](https://gumroad.com/library) (the purchase email links to it) always has the latest installer and your license key. Lost the email? Search your inbox for "Gumroad". Installing a newer version over the top is safe; your models and settings are kept.

## Is my data private? [#is-my-data-private]

Local generations never leave your machine. Cloud results are stored temporarily so the app can download them, then deleted.

## Is SimpliGen open source? Is it ComfyUI? [#is-simpligen-open-source-is-it-comfyui]

SimpliGen runs a managed ComfyUI-based engine under the hood, but the app itself is a commercial product and not open source. If you already use ComfyUI: SimpliGen's engine is fully separate from your own install and won't touch it, and generated files are ComfyUI-compatible workflows you can drag into your own setup.
